On
March 31, 2013, in the first half of an Elite Eight game in the NCAA, Louisville against Duke arguably one of the worst sports injuries occurred. Kevin Ware landed awkwardly after trying to block a three-point
shot attempt from an opponent on Duke. Then he landed awkwardly on his leg
twisting it and snapping it. Then he suffered a compound fracture where his
bone (tibia) was protruding from his leg. At first Ware did not know what had
happen until he saw the reaction from his teammates and coach. Even his
opponents were shocked, basically everyone was shocked.
As a basketball player myself I am a
little worried and cautious about closing out on shots especially if I am
running fast. Also when he jumped he was running and had nowhere to land, well
he did but, it wasnt secure. Also when he closed out he looked back at the
hoop and didnt concentrate on his landing and his tibia snapped. Doctors still
don’t know what really happened for his leg to end up like that. Personally I
thought that he had some type of bone disease that was unknown. Even though
that was a good idea most doctors said that it was that he had prior stress to
that area and that’s why it snapped like that. Usually compound fractures happen
in car accidents or war. Also it said that it takes 900 to 1,000 pounds of
force for a bone to snap like that. So I wonder how did his landing get that
much force? I just hope to see Kevin Ware back on the court soon.
