Hurricane Sandy

Last week Hurricane Sandy devastated the tri-state area. There are a great deal of floods, fallen trees, and MTA problems. Some scientists think this hurricane is due to climate change but some eapeople in the tri-state ar chose to ignore them. Now they regret doing that because Sandy has caused people to have no power, internet, heat, or gas for cars. Since then, their ears are perked up to the idea of climate change. As New York braces for the nor’easter on November 27, 2012 we are looking to take the storm more seriousily.
I think that the tri-state area could have prepared better for this storm. The devastation was immense, trees crumbled onto buildings, and smushed cars, downed power lines cought fire and burned houses to the ground. NewYork’s Governor Cuomo of could have requested more manditory evacuations. This would have saved more lives. For instance a women in Staten Island lost her sons - two and four years old- swept away by the water currents. If she would have evacuated earlier this would never have happened.
Also two major events in New York Got cancled. The annual New York marathon, and the season opener of the Knicks and the Nets. This would also be the opening of the new Nets Barclay center. I was really looking forward to this game but it got resceduled. I do think that they city could have prepared bett for this by postponing this and tell people to not anticipate these events happening.
Luckily a hand full of people were not effected, including me and most friends. Hopefully people get their power back soon and things can get back oin track.
